There are over 20 000 knee “scopes” performed in Ontario every year. Though the evidence for the efficacy of arthroscopic surgery for knee arthritis is equivocal, there is a growing need for professionals to provide rehabilitation to thousands of patients. This course will discuss the processes of the different types of arthroscopic surgery that are performed and discuss the tissues that are affected during the procedures. As an arthritic knee that has arthroscopic surgery is still an arthritic knee, arthritis will be discussed and the importance of controlled loading. The use of post-op protocols will be discussed and a critical analysis of what makes a good protocol will be reviewed, providing you with the tools you need to select a good post-op protocol or help you create your own evidence-based protocol. Finally, the rehabilitation process will be studied from the initial or acute post-op phase, into the middle or restoration of function phase through the end-stage rehabilitation phase for the post-op knee will be detailed with the evidence to support what to do when and why. There is also a resource module that has examples of exercise with detailed pictures and videos as well as resources for sport specific rehabilitation are provided for you to use in clinic on Monday morning!
