You look after your lawn, you water it regularly, you fertilize it twice a year, you weed it with passion but the guy next door has dandelions. Guess what – you’re going to get dandelions too. The same is true of the hip and spine. They are next door neighbours and each has the potential to negatively impact on the other.

The “hip – spine syndrome” was first described by McNabb in 1983 with symptoms from both sites giving a confusing clinical picture that require a detailed history and examination to diagnose the major source of disability. Failure to recognize and effectively manage concurrent dysfunction at both the hip and spine may lead to misdiagnosis, erroneous treatment and poor clinical outcomes.

This six-part distance learning program reviews the theoretical concept and scientific evidence, the medical masqueraders, clinical assessment of the hip and lumbo-sacral spine. The evidence-supported foundational and adjunctive interventions are presented for you to effectively manage the hip spine syndrome.

This online program may be taken as a stand-alone learning and also serves as the preparatory component of Key Clinical Skills Modern MSK hybrid in-class skills development lab. Participants who take the online component will be provided with an appropriate discount off the cost of the hybrid online/in-class Managing the hip spine syndrome program.
