This course blends evidence based practice with expert clinical practice in the evaluation and management of chronic groin pain in athletes. The authors of this course will highlight new information regarding the history and new terminology surrounding groin pain in athletes. Contemporary information regarding key clinical examination findings associated with injury are presented. A closer look at the pathomechanics behind groin pain in athletes is explored with treatment management strategies matched to the sport specific demands of the athlete. Updated evidence based treatment strategies are presented and reviewed with regards to treatment efficacy while also highlighting what may still be missing from clinical practice. An evidence informed treatment strategy is presented with specific exercise based videos incorporated to help the clinician implement new treatment approaches starting today!
Lexie Wright
Dr. Alexis Wright is an Associate Professor and serves as the Director of Curriculum Assessment and Musculoskeletal faculty in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Tufts University, Boston. Dr. Wright is a clinical researcher, educator, and practicing physical therapist whose passions include refining and improving the patient examination and treatment process used in everyday physical therapist practice. Dr. Wright received her BS in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Duke University, and a PhD in physical therapy clinical research from the University of Otago, New Zealand. Dr Wright was recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists in 2011 and achieved APTA board certified orthopedic specialization in 2015. Dr. Wright is also a 2019 graduate of the Education Leadership Institute Fellowship through the APTA. Dr. Wright is a frequent research presenter at state, national, and international meetings and a productive author with over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts in orthopedic physical therapy. When she’s not working, you can find Dr. Wright spending time with her 6 year old daughter seeking new adventures!
Steve Dischiavi
Dr. Steven Dischiavi is an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Director of Rehabilitation in the Department of Athletics at High Point University in North Carolina. Dr. Dischiavi brings over 25 years of experience in sports medicine to his position, including 10 years with a professional sports team. Dr. Dischiavi served as team physical therapist and assistant certified athletic trainer for the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League from 2004 to 2014.
Dr. Dischiavi holds a unique set of credentials as a licensed physical therapist and a certified athletic trainer. He holds a manual therapy certification as well as being board certified by the American Physical Therapy Association in Sports Physical Therapy.
Dr. Dischiavi is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Ulster focused on the application of a specific exercise philosophy and its effectiveness at preventing lower extremity injuries.
