DESCRIPTION
As pelvic health becomes more well-recognized in our communities and as more comprehensive research becomes available, patients are searching for therapists with knowledge of pelvic floor dysfunction.

This online course has been designed and dictated by two knowledgeable pelvic health physiotherapists. It has designed to give you a confident understanding in pelvic floor anatomy, common conditions for men and women, pregnancy and post-partum care, digestive issues and sexual dysfunction. This course was developed for allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, chiropractors, manual osteopathic practitioners, athletic therapists and massage therapists.

The course includes 10 dictated PowerPoint presentations that are supported by videos and web resource links. A printable certificate of completion will be made available upon completion of the course for your professional portfolio.

OBJECTIVES
• Understanding pelvic floor anatomy and how it relates to supporting structures
• Understanding how pelvic floor conditions relate to either a hypotonic or hypertonic pelvic floor and their subsequent symptoms
• Know how to evaluate patients externally presenting with pelvic floor dysfunction
• Appreciate the medical and surgical options available for management of pelvic floor conditions
• Know the physiotherapy management of pelvic floor dysfunction
• Understand the relevance of pelvic floor dysfunction in orthopedic conditions
• Recognize the role central sensitization plays in pelvic floor dysfunction

PROGRAM
This 10-part, distance-learning, online program delivers:
• A comprehensive overview of pelvic floor anatomy, and male/female pelvic floor conditions
• A comprehensive overview of the importance of the pelvic floor in orthopedic conditions and relation to central sensitization
• Pelvic floor treatment/medical intervention options including:
• Education, exercise, lifestyle management
• Bowel/bladder toileting retraining techniques
• Manual therapy
• Surgery
• Pessaries, abdominal bracing, nerve blocks
• Proper instruction on how to perform a kegel and reverse kegel
• Non-internal management strategies for pelvic floor retraining
• Proper exercise prescriptions and exercise progressions
