Do you have the skills and confidence to assess, diagnose and safely rehabilitate a young athlete back to sport and play?
Children are not mini adults and have their own unique pathologies and require very different approaches to treatment and rehabilitation from health professionals with expertise in youth athlete development. But where can you get that knowledge? Most undergraduate therapy courses do not include paediatric MSK modules to give you the experience you need to work with younger athletes and active kids.

What will you learn?

This fully online course will give you the skills and confidence to work with active kids and younger athletes. It will take you step by step through how to diagnose childhood knee pathologies, understand the anatomy of the younger athlete, learn about the risk factors associated with injury in this population group, and develop confidence in knowing when a young athlete is ready to safely return back to sport.

  • Understand the anatomy of the adolescent knee
  • Be confident in recognising different knee pathologies
  • Know the questions to ask the younger patient
  • Understand the risk factors associated with knee pathologies in the younger patient
  • Appreciate the differential diagnoses in knee pain presentations
  • Develop an understanding of rehabilitating the adolescent with knee pain

Taught by Angela Jackson, Chartered Physiotherapist

Angela Jackson was a young athlete who had an injury that ended her sporting dreams. That has fuelled a passion to deliver high-quality diagnosis and treatment for all young athletes in a career as a physiotherapist spanning 35 years. She has helped athletes of all ages and abilities achieve their potential including supporting her own 2 children to international success.

She is now on a mission to share her knowledge with health and exercise professionals to reduce the risk of injury through raising awareness and education. For 15 years, she has been the Physiotherapist and Strength and Conditioning Consultant for Cheshire Cricket Board supporting their coach education programme and providing workshops for parents and athletes on injury prevention and performance.

Her enthusiasm for sharing her extensive knowledge is evident whether she is presenting on courses, talks and workshops for health and exercise professionals, in schools, clubs, and sporting organisations.
