Course Description:
This program has been developed to prepare Physiotherapists to work at the top of their scope of practice in MSK care. This distance-learning program delivers over 50 contact hours of self-paced learning through four comprehensive courses: Imaging foundations, Imaging spine, Imaging Extremities, Imaging Utilization supported by videos and additional resource materials.
Participants will be grounded in diagnostic imaging concepts for the musculoskeletal, cardio-respiratory and neurological systems. The imaging views and modalities for each of these systems and common pathologies as seen on diagnostic imaging will be detailed. Clinical utilization guidelines, practice recommendations and delivered with quick reference summary tables provided in the 1500 + page handout which may be downloaded and saved for future reference. You will test your knowledge with 20 multiple choice questions that have been randomly chosen from a larger list at the end of each of the first three units. You are required to answer 80% of the questions correctly to advance to the next unit, but can repeat the test to achieve competency as needed. The course has a strong focus on utility and optimal utilization of diagnostic imaging in clinical practice.
The program has been developed and is being delivered by Key Clinical Skills, a recognized leader in post-professional education for Physiotherapists in Canada. A certificate of completion is provided for your professional portfolio. Physiotherapists who have previously completed this course order imaging while working in Rapid Access Clinics in Ontario, at VCH in BC and at NSHA in Nova Scotia.

Course Objectives:
Upon completing the Medical Diagnostic Imaging Course, participants will:
- Understand the key foundational concepts of Medical Diagnostic Imaging
- Understand the radiological evaluation and commonly seen pathologies of the Musculo-skeletal, Cardio-respiratory and Neurological systems
- Understand the clinical indications and limitation of various imaging modalities
- Be able to fully integrate Medical Diagnostic Imaging into clinical practice
- Acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and competencies to order diagnostic imaging with the physiotherapy scope of practice
- Prepare for new emerging employment opportunities in Physiotherapy scope of practice
Pre-Requisites:
This course is open to all Physiotherapists practicing in all areas of the health care system. Participants do not require prior experience in ordering medical imaging. As all program content is delivered on-line, reliable access to Internet services should be secured. Who is the instructor?
The instructor is Dr. Jack Miller. Jack is a life-long learner with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto, a Graduate Diploma of Manipulative Therapy from The New Zealand Manipulative Therapy Association, a Master of Clinical Science from Western University in Canada, a Post-Professional Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in the USA and is currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine from the UK. He has received extensive training in Diagnostic Imaging from this extensive course work and ongoing residency under the direct mentoring of Physicians, Surgeons and Radiologists. Jack has lectured extensively on diagnostic imaging in Physiotherapy and currently works as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner regularly using diagnostic imaging as clinically appropriate.
