Since 1992\, Jeremy has taught over 350 shoulder workshops internationally in the USA\, Canada\, Australia\, New Zealand\, the Cayman Islands\, Brazil\, Chile\, Argentina\, Peru\, Japan\, The Azores\, Norway\, Denmark\, Sweden\, Switzerland\, the Middle East\, Ireland\, South Africa\, India\, extensively throughout Europe and throughout the UK. He was a co-editor and author for Grieve’s Modern Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (4th ed). \nThe Course\nThis evidence-based theoretical and practical course is based on extensive clinical experience in assessment\, diagnosis and rehabilitation of shoulder pathology\, as well as extensive reference to research publications from a variety of disciplines. Models of shoulder assessment including the Shoulder Symptom Modification Procedure (Lewis JS (2009) British Journal of Sports Medicine) and a new model for staging the continuum of rotator cuff tendinopathy (Lewis JS (2010) British Journal of Sports Medicine) will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on clinical reasoning to support management decisions. Participants completing these courses will gain a greater understanding of the anatomy\, biomechanics\, assessment and evidence-based treatment of this interesting and complicated region of the body. \nThe two day in-person component of the course will be taught in Canada by Rob Werstine (see bio on the website) who has published on the throwing shoulder as well as conservative rehabilitation of the hypermobile shoulder. This course remains a ‘work in progress’ and is continually being updated with the emergence of new research and clinical understanding. As a result\, many people have participated on two and some on three occasions. This course will be fun\, thought provoking\, and provide opportunity to discuss ideas and share experiences. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nTo develop a better understanding and knowledge of the clinical anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder girdle.\nTo develop a comprehensive subjective and physical evaluation strategy for the shoulder that considers local and referred sources of pain and directs the clinician to develop an appropriate management plan.\nTo develop greater confidence with the physical assessment of the shoulder region and a better understanding of the evidence for the use of the selected assessment techniques.\nTo gain proficiency in the Shoulder Symptom Modification Procedure.\nTo develop a greater understanding and knowledge of various pathologies of the shoulder girdle.\nTo develop greater competency in the management of patients with a variety of shoulder pathologies including; the acute shoulder\, subacromial pain syndrome\, rotator cuff\, shoulder pain syndromes\, and pain referred to the shoulder.\nTo review the research evidence relating to the influence of posture and muscle imbalance and its relationship with shoulder pathology.\nTo review the evidence underpinning the pathology\, and the assessment and management of various shoulder conditions\, especially rotator cuff and biceps tendinopathy.\nTo review the research evidence evaluating the use of diagnostic imaging as part of the management for musculoskeletal disorders of the shoulder.\nTo review the research evidence evaluating the use of injections as part of the management for musculoskeletal disorders of the shoulder.\nTo develop a greater confidence in the use of exercise therapy\, hands on therapy and taping techniques for the shoulder and evaluation of the efficacy of the techniques\, balanced against the evidence base for using these techniques.

He was born in New Zealand and trained in Australia. He works in the UK National Health Service as well as working privately in central London (www.CHHP.com). He has been awarded a Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy\, which is the highest award the Society can bestow on one of its members. He has been acknowledged as one of the 5 most eminent clinicians in his profession (UK DoH [Department of Health] National AHP Clinical Expert Database). Jeremy has a clinical interest in tendon problems including the rotator cuff\, biceps and tennis elbow. Jeremy has also trained as a sonographer and performs ultrasound guided shoulder injections\, (including intra-articular hydro-distension procedures for frozen shoulder) as part of the rehabilitation process if required and appropriate. He also has a Postgraduate Certificate in Diagnostic Imaging (Ultrasound) (University of Leeds\, UK). \n  \nThe Course \nThis evidence-based theoretical and practical course is based on extensive clinical experience in assessment\, diagnosis and rehabilitation of shoulder pathology\, as well as extensive reference to research publications from a variety of disciplines.

This course contains content that addresses the requirements (theory\, practice and final evaluation) that enable participants to SEEK authorization for the spinal manipulation roster in Alberta. \nYou will be given access to 8 on-line units that will cover the theory and background necessary to safely and effectively utilize manipulation. These units will include:\n1) An Introduction to Manipulation\n2) The Risks Associated with Manipulation\n3) Discussion of the Application of Manipulation\n4) Chronic Pain Management in the Lumbar/Pelvic Region\n5) Management of Hypermobility\n6) The SIJ\n7) Overview of Objective Exam Screen Tests\n8) Discussion of the Legislation\, Rostering and Informed Consent related to Lumbar/Sacral Manipulation\nThere will be quizzes to assess your knowledge acquisition following every two or three units.\nAn additional 2 units on anatomy and pathology are included as well. \nFollowing completion of the online module\, participants will attend a two-day weekend intensive course. On this course\, screening and assessment of the lumbar/sacral region will be reviewed. The evidence-based assessment of the lumbar/sacral region will be illustrated and practiced by participants to help classify patients into a treatment based category. These categories include Directional Preference\, Stabilization (hypermobility)\, Chronic Pain and Manipulation. The focus of the course will be on effective and safe assessment of patients to identify those patients who would most likely benefit from manipulation. Participants will have the opportunity to practice lumbar/sacral area manipulations including supine\, side-lying and prone techniques. The techniques covered include but are not restricted to the lumbar side-lying gap manipulation\, the Chicago technique\, Thoraco-lumbar techniques and Sacral manipulations. Once students have been guided in the refinement of the motor strategies for manipulation\, they will be asked to demonstrate competency for each manipulation covered in the course prior to having their skills checklist marked as competent. Audio-visual\, demonstration\, instructor guided application\, peer-review feed-back and case studies will be employed to promote learning prior to assessment of competency. This course will provide 14 hours of direct contact teaching related to the skill acquisition of manipulation. \nThe techniques covered include:\n1) Lumbar side-lying gap manipulation\n2) Chicago technique (which is a lumbar sacral technique)\n3) Thoraco-lumbar side-lying gap technique\n4) Long leg sacral thrust \n**Please use your username and password that you created to register for this course to access the online material

SUMMARY:Spinal Masqueraders and Red Flags Interactive Webinar | February 21\, 2024 8PM EST
DESCRIPTION:Free webinar hosted by Key Clinical Skills \nSPINAL MASQUERADERS \nThe vast majority of spinal pain is short-lived and resolves with advice\, self-care and when needed\, short term interventions such as manual therapy. However\, various serious medical conditions may also “masquerade” as simple spine pain.  Appropriate history receiving\, thorough clinical examination and watchful waiting often have the ability to “unmask” these conditions so that the patient may be re-directed on to medical management.\nThis free webinar will use case-studies from the presenter’s 40-year experience in primary clinical and consultative advanced practitioner roles to review some of the serious medical conditions that may present as spinal pain. The program will be interactive with lots of opportunities to participate\, respond to quizzes and share your experiences. Those interested in taking on advanced practitioner roles will gain skills in an important area of consultant-level care. \n  \nProgram Presenter: Dr. Jack Miller DPT FCAMPT\, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner \nProgram Moderator: Dr. Rob Werstine DPT\, FCAMPT\, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner \nCost: Compliments of KCS
