SUMMARY:Spinal Manipulation Masterclass | June 21 | Calgary\, AB
DESCRIPTION:You have completed the appropriate program and gained the competencies to roster for spinal manipulation. Does that mean the end of the journey? Here is your opportunity to truly master the skill of spinal manipulation and broaden your scope of techniques beyond the basic rostering skills. Improve your skills\, your confidence and your outcomes. \nThis course will review the current best-evidence safety screening and technique selection factors including clinical prediction rules along with patient examination and clinical reasoning. Techniques from the Cervico-thoracic to the Lumbar/sacral region will be reviewed as well as junctional techniques. Unique variations on the standard interventions will be gained to enhance your skill set. The majority of the program will be spent on manipulation skill acquisition using a fast-paced approach that will rapidly build your skills and confidence.  A strong focus is placed on techniques that ensure patient comfort and safety while delivering measurable clinical gains in symptom control and function. You will be a better clinician on Monday morning. \nPrerequisites:\nClinicians currently rostered for and using SMT in clinical practice will find this skill-focused program highly useful in refining their techniques and learning new tools for their clinical practice. Participants will be practicing on each other and as such must be safe and willing to fully participate in the program. Dress for a lab course with loose-fitting clothing. \nInstructors\nDarcy Doyle\nDarcy has a Graduate Diploma of Manipulative Therapy from Canada and earned his Gunn IMS certification. He is a past president of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapy and helped lead Canada through the International accreditation process with the International Federation of Manual and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists (IFOMPT). Darcy has been our lead instructor in Alberta for manipulative instruction for the last decade. \nRob Werstine\nRob has a Graduate Diploma of Manipulative Therapy from Canada\, a Masters of Science from Western University and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the USA. He is a former Chair and instructor in the Orthopaedic Division and a past President of CPA. Rob helped to develop the Clinical Masters of Manipulation at Western University and has extensive experience in teaching spinal manipulation to all levels of clinicians. \nJack Miller\nJack has a Graduate Diploma of Manipulative Therapy from New Zealand\, a Master of Clinical Science in Manipulative Therapy from Western University and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the USA. He has taught spinal manipulation internationally for over 20 years and is a former President of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapy and the CPA’s Orthopedic Division Executive. \nInvestment:\n$425.00 + tax\nDate: June 21\, 2025\nTime: 8:30am-5pm Saturday\nLocation: Panther Sports Medicine- Seton\n4995 Market St SE\nCalgary\, AB T3M 2P9

SUMMARY:Modern MSK: Cervical/Thoracic Manipulation Course | March 15-16 | Toronto\, ON
DESCRIPTION:This two-part course will review the theoretical knowledge and background learning required to prepare to safely and effectively practice manual therapy and manipulation of the cervical and thoracic spine with a 4-week online distance-learning program. Then the participant will attend a practical\, in-person course that will help them gain psycho-motor skill competency in the practice of manipulation of the cervical and thoracic spine. \nThe online course consists of 9 audio-power point presentations which include:\n1) Vascular Risk in Cervical Manipulation and Treatment\n2) Red Flags for Cervical Manipulation and Treatment\n3) Introduction to Manipulation\n4) Manipulation of the Cervical Spine- the process\n5) Thoracic Spine Manipulation\n6) Yellow Flag Screening\n7) Introduction to the Treatment-Based Classification System of the Cervical Spine\n8) Patient Screen Assessment for the Cervical/Thoracic Spine\n9) Legislative Requirements for Manipulation\nThere are quizzes to complete following every two or three units to assess knowledge acquisition. \nFollowing the online course\, participants will attend a weekend intensive course to gain the skills of assessment and manipulation of the Cervical and Thoracic spine. This course will focus on the clinical reasoning and motor learning required to effectively integrate manual physical therapy examination and intervention techniques into the clinical management of these individuals. Safety and screening for appropriate candidates to discuss manipulation as an option are reviewed in detail. The evidence-based assessment of the cervical/thoracic region will be illustrated and practiced by participants to help classify patients into a treatment-based category. The five categories include Mobility\, Directional Preference\, Exercise/Endurance\, Pain Control and Headaches. The focus of the course will be on effective and safe assessment of patients to identify those patients who would most likely benefit from manipulation. Participants will have the opportunity to practice Cervical/Thoracic area manipulations including supine\, side-lying and seated techniques. The techniques covered include but are not restricted to the manipulations listed above. Once students have been guided in the refinement of the motor strategies for manipulation\, they will be asked to demonstrate competency for each manipulation covered in the course prior to having their skills checklist marked as competent. Audio-visual\, demonstration\, instructor guided application\, peer-review feedback and case studies will be employed to promote learning prior to assessment of competency. This course will provide 14 hours of direct contact teaching related to the skill acquisition of manipulation. \n  \n**Please use your username and password that you created to register for this course to access the online material

The techniques covered include but are not restricted to the lumbar side-lying gap manipulation\, the Chicago technique\, Thoraco-lumbar techniques and Sacral manipulations. \n**Please use your username and password that you created to register for this course to access the online material \nThere will be quizzes to assess your knowledge acquisition following every two or three units. \nThrough online learning\, we can maximize your in-person learning experience so that you will be prepare to use these skills on Monday morning!
