SUMMARY:Lumbar/Sacral Management Course | GTA
DESCRIPTION:This course will cover the material you need to effectively screen and select patients eligible for manipulation in the Lumbar Sacral region and you will be taught how to effectively deliver manipulation in this area. You will be using the “reversed classroom” to participate in this course. First\, you will learn the theory on-line\, at home at your own pace. Second\, you will come to a weekend intensive course where 80% of your learning will be hands on so that you DO NOT have to listen to theory\, you can do\, Do DO! \nYou will be given access to 8 on-line units that will cover the theory and background necessary to safely and effectively utilize manipulation. These units will include: \n\nAn Introduction to Manipulation\nThe Risks Associated with Manipulation\nDiscussion of the Application of Manipulation\nChronic Pain Management in the Lumbar/Pelvic Region\nManagement of Hypermobility\nThe SIJ\nOver view of Objective Exam Screen Tests\nDiscussion of the Legislation\, Rostering and Informed Consent related to Lumbar/Sacral Manipulation\n\nThere will be quizzes to assess your knowledge acquisition following every two or three units. \n  \nFollowing completion of the on-line module\, participants will attend a two-day weekend intensive course. On this course\, screening and assessment of the lumbar/sacral region will be reviewed. The evidence-based assessment of the lumbar/sacral region will be illustrated and practiced by participants to help classify patients into a treatment based category. These categories include Directional Preference\, Stabilization (hypermobility)\, Chronic Pain and Manipulation. The focus of the course will be on effective and safe assessment of patients to identify those patients who would most likely benefit from manipulation. Participants will have the opportunity to practice lumbar/sacral area manipulations including supine\, side-lying and prone techniques. The techniques covered include but are not restricted to the lumbar side-lying gap manipulation\, the Chicago technique\, Thoraco-lumbar techniques and Sacral manipulations. Once students have been guided in the refinement of the motor strategies for manipulation\, they will be asked to demonstrate competency for each manipulation covered in the course prior to having their skills checklist marked as competent. Audio-visual\, demonstration\, instructor guided application\, peer-review feed-back and case studies will be employed to promote learning prior to assessment of competency. This course will provide 14 hours of direct contact teaching related to the skill acquisition of manipulation. \n  \nThrough on-line learning\, we can maximize your in-person learning experience so that you will be prepare to use these skills on Monday morning!

SUMMARY:Modern MSK: Cervical/Thoracic Manipulation Course | Calgary\, AB
DESCRIPTION:This two-part course will review the theoretical knowledge and background learning required to prepare to safely and effectively practice manual therapy and manipulation of the cervical and thoracic spine with a 4-week on-line distance-learning program. Then the participant will attend a practical\, in-person course that will help them gain psycho-motor skill competency in the practice of manipulation of the cervical and thoracic spine. \nThe on-line course consists of 9 audio-power point presentations which include:\n1) Vascular Risk in Cervical Manipulation and Treatment\n2) Red Flags for Cervical Manipulation and Treatment\n3) Introduction to Manipulation\n4) Manipulation of the Cervical Spine- the process\n5) Thoracic Spine Manipulation\n6) Yellow Flag Screening\n7) Introduction to the Treatment-Based Classification System of the Cervical Spine\n8) Patient Screen Assessment for the Cervical/Thoracic Spine\n9) Legislative Requirements for Manipulation\nThere are quizzes to complete following every two or three units to assess knowledge acquisition. \nFollowing the on-line course\, participants will attend a weekend intensive course to gain the skills of assessment and manipulation of the Cervical and Thoracic spine. This course will focus on the clinical reasoning and motor learning required to effectively integrate manual physical therapy examination and intervention techniques into the clinical management of these individuals. Safety and screening for appropriate candidates to discuss manipulation as an option are reviewed in detail. The evidence-based assessment of the cervical/thoracic region will be illustrated and practiced by participants to help classify patients into a treatment-based category. The five categories include Mobility\, Directional Preference\, Exercise/Endurance\, Pain Control and Headaches. The focus of the course will be on effective and safe assessment of patients to identify those patients who would most likely benefit from manipulation. Participants will have the opportunity to practice Cervical/Thoracic area manipulations including supine\, side-lying and seated techniques. The techniques covered include but are not restricted to the manipulations listed above.

SUMMARY:Modern MSK: Managing the Hip Spine Syndrome | Kingston\, ON | January 14\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:You look after your lawn\, you water it regularly\, you fertilize it twice a year\, you weed it with passion but the guy next door has dandelions. Guess what – you’re going to get dandelions too. The same is true of the hip and spine. They are next door neighbours and each has the potential to negatively impact on the other. \nThe “hip – spine syndrome” was first described by McNabb in 1983 with symptoms from both sites giving a confusing clinical picture that require a detailed history and examination to diagnose the major source of disability. Failure to recognize and effectively manage concurrent dysfunction at both the hip and spine may lead to misdiagnosis\, erroneous treatment and poor clinical outcomes. \nThis hybrid-learning event includes a six-part distance learning program that reviews the theoretical concept and scientific evidence\, the medical masqueraders\, clinical assessment of the hip and lumbo-sacral spine. The evidence-supported foundational and adjunctive interventions are presented for you to in an intensive\, one-day skills lab January 14\, 2023. The skills developed in this interactive\, hands-on session will empower you to effectively manage the hip spine syndrome. \nDistance learning: Six-part\, self-paced over 4 weeks prior and following the in-class skills lab. \nIn-class skills lab: January 14\, 2023 \nLocation: Lifemark Health 790 Blackburn Mews\, Kingston\, ON K7P 2N6 Kingston On. \nStart time: 8:30 am \nEnd time: 4:30 pm \nDress for an interactive lab course \nRegistration: www.keyclinskills.ca \nCost: $295.00

In this course\, screening and assessment of the lumbar/sacral region will be reviewed. \n**Please use your username and password that you created to register for this course to access the online material \nThere will be quizzes to assess your knowledge acquisition following every two or three units. \nThrough on-line learning\, we can maximize your in-person learning experience so that you will be prepare to use these skills on Monday morning!
